We started at the beginner's climbing area, La Escuela. But, after we didn't feel safe leading routes there, we pivoted to a short afternoon hike up and down the Pine Creek Trail.

Round Valley Out-and-Backs

Starting from Millpond Recreation Area just outside of Bishop, CA, I rode all the major out-and-back climbs out of Round Valley including visits to South Lake, Lake Sabrina, North Lake, Pine Creek Canyon, and Lower Rock Creek Canyon.

We spent the day exploring the lower end of Horseshoe Slab, climbing a few routes, and freeing one stuck piece of gear when we tried to set up a rappel.

We checked out the lower end of Horseshoe Slab but found another party working there today, so we looked at the prospects for practicing our anchor-building and rappelling, then did a quick investigation of Sunshine Slab before returning to the condo before afternoon rain.

We started late from Mosquito Flat on a mid-week hike to Lookout Peak above Ruby Lake. We got as far as the minor summit to the peak's south when we reached our turnaround time. We're getting slow scrambling on talus!
