The crack tips are in virgin tube wall to the left of the cable stop weld and into the main headtube weld on the right.  The crack probably started at the sharp discontinuity on the inside of the cable stop weld.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

The blue coloration is an indication of too much oxygen present during welding, leading to increased brittleness of the material.  This should have prompted the welder to redo his work at the time.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

The tire was rideable at reduced inflation pressure until I could get myself home, so i wasn't stranded.  Although there is plenty of rubber left on the tread  the tire had approximately 10,000km on it, so I feel that I got my money's worth.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
