Sugino XD left crank, 170mm, cracks at spindle corners This crank had been on my bike for about two years, or 5000 miles. Already one can see cracks radiating from the corners at 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock.
Since this crank has always been on a recumbent I am still riding it until I receive a replacement. Sudden failure does not usually result in a crash as it might on an upright bike, although should it fail while riding, continuing to ride with no place to support my left foot would be difficult.
It's possible that a contributing factor was that the crank had been originally installed with too much torque.
